LOUD overflow!

We just set up a sump for the first time today. Everything went fine, it seems to be running well. Our tank is not reef-ready so we are using a CPR CS50 external overflow which is very loud! We have it hanging on the tank properly, it can't get under the water any more than it is.

Is there something else we can do to reduce the loud water sucking noise?

Thanks for any help.

With an external is it possible to attach a durso?

did you buy this new? do you have all the parts? there is a air tube (hard) that goes in the bulkhead that allows air to the drain. i have one and its slient

Yes, it is brand new...shoot, I thinkmy husband hooked it up with soft airline tubing though...we should have the hard tube, that must be the error. We'll get him to fix it now.

the aqua lifter pump uses soft tube, and the hard tube with the black washer goes in the strainer (make sure the tube is above the water line)

OMG, we are idiots! We read about it in the directions too but somehow we forgot to put it in! Big derr on our parts! Man, we are such newbies with overflows and sumps!

Just put that in and it is perfect now, thanks!

I have a HOB overflow that also sounds like a toilet when I have too much water flowing through it. Its been running for maybe 3-4 months now but with minimal flow going through it and into my sump. Mine didnt come with an air pump like Lunareefs, is there a way I can mod it so I can increase the flow without making it noisy??
