I actually use my old Magfloats as clips. I simply put the seaweed etc between the glass & magnet & slide it down into the aquarium.
I have a few different old magnet cleaners that never really worked as glass cleaners
The smallest mag float is only $6.95
Of course now when I clean the glass my yellow tang thinks it's feeding time
I make my own also. I just take a strip of acrylic, bend it into a hook at the top in the same manner at I showed at the last club meeting (propane torch) so that it hangs from the side of the tank. I then drill a hole at the bottom and use a plastic cable tie (tie wrap) to attach any lettuce clip I like. For lettuce clips I used to use the standard ones, but they wear out too fast. Now I just use large plastic tubing clamps (we throw them out all the time at work).
I think the mag float is no replacement for this mag feeder. i was using mag float as well but it's kinda messy and difficult to put in place. i really like the mag feeder, and it floats too! the only thing i don't like is that the color could be more subdue. it's the brightest thing in my tank now.
