Mangrove shoot

So I picked this mangrove shoot up because I think they look cool when they get bigger.

Couple quick questions:
1. Are they particularly slow growers? it seems like it hasn't changed at all since I got it 4-5 weeks ago.
2. Do they need a plant light or the reef light?
3. Is this light set-up reasonable as a temporary setup?

Yeah in my experience pretty slow growers. And like lots of light. Probably full spectrum since above water? I had one that made it to 10 or 15 leaves but it took a couple years I think. Then it got too big so I potted it… but I screwed up once and watered it with fresh water and it was toast the next day!

Yes mangrove shoots are slow growers, great filtration for a a tank too. But like all plants need full grow lights to keep them happy.

Looks like its on its way out. The discolored section is probably soft and squishy. A healthy shoot should be hard when sqeeze. Put a light on it, if conditions doesnt improve I would take it out and put it in lightly fertilized fresh water so it doesnt have to use energy to secrete salt through its leaves. Check the roots to see if they are still healthy.

Its firm/not squishy anywhere on the stem and roots seem healthy at least if they're comparable to other fresh water plants.

It hasn’t really changed. The stem/trunk is still solid.

Quick update on the shoot. The center seems to be splitting off and opening up into 2 more leaves.
