marco sand and rock in sump?

beckbrass

Make it fun.
Just ordered the "cycled" largo rock and the sand from marco rocks. Should this be cycled before going into a sump refugium. This is a new sump as I'm swapping out the old wet dry that was converted to a sump. I can sead it with some tank sand as well and some rock from tank. I tried to contact marc a few days ago but have not heard back from him.

He might be away. I PM'd him the same question and have not heard back. I have 150lbs of the "pre-cooked" Key Largo in my 200 and thought something was wrong with my test kit because I got a slight amonia reading for the first day, then zero everything on the second day. No amonia, nitrates, nitrites, phosphates etc. I backed it up with another test kit and got the same result. I have been getting the same results for 5 days now. I do have a sacraficial Zoa frag in the tank, but it looks very happy. I have never experienced such a short cycle, and all my other parameters are dead on. Weird.....

I'm also guessing he's out as I tried calling as well and cant get him. Just thought I'd see if any one had any ideas if i can just put it right in. Weird 2 day cycle jprince.

Without speaking with him, I would air on the side of caution and add very small pieces over time. I did experience that slight amonia reading, so you probably don't want to lump 20 or 30 lbs in there all at once. Even on the pre cooked stuff there obviously is SOME die off. HTH.

I added 20lbs of marco dry rock to my existing tank w/ no ill effects!! Its been 3-4 wks and my water params are fine, my corals are thriving, and no algae!!!!! going to skiptons to buy another 20lbs!!! good luck, peter
