Marking a "BRUTE" trash can

I recently bought a BRUTE trash can to mix saltwater in. I would like to mark the inside in 2.5 gal increments but I'm not sure what would be the best way. I would think Sharpy markers are not safe. Perhaps I could scratch the inside? What do you guys think? What are other people out there doing?

You could use a soldering iron lightly to to put small lines and numbers in it, or use a reef safe epoxy or silicon to "glue" small thin acrylic pieces to the side

I'm not sure why you're worried about a sharpie.
I can assure you that if PVC cement is safe a little sharpie mark is going to do very little.

I put score marks every 5 gallons on the inside with a razor blade. They were hard to see but easy to feel.

globs of silicone if you are patient and they would be easier to see.

Cut up a few pieces of an air hose and glue them. They work perfect in this situation because they contort to the curved surface and they are easy to see and quick and easy to glue in place.
