Montipora capricornus on Overflows

Anyone have caps growing on their overflows? Any pics?

Can they encrust to a non porous substrate?

If so what are my options for mounting them to the overflow outside of super glueing them and potentially ruining the overflow?

Any downsides to caps on the overflow?

I think it would look sharp to have a few different colors growing up the overflow.

I have some Orange Cap that started growing on my overflow.

At this point, I can't think of a downside. I'm sure i could break it off pretty easily if I wanted.

I'll try to get a pic when I get home.

I have 5 different caps on my overflows. Just superglue a frag any where you want it and it will encrust in time. FWIW, you won't ruin the overflow with a little superglue.

you could probably do it with pretty much any coral, although I'd think stonies would be more suited to it than soft stuff. I can't see LPS doing well in that orientation, but acros, montis, even zoos would probably do great.

Yep, same here. We superglued caps to our overflows as well. No problems, and they should break easily when they need to be scaled down a touch. I was insistent on having caps and that's the only place David really wants them growing on, to be honest.

LOL, you are too funny.
No pics of the caps yet as they are still fairly small and were only recently glued to the overflow. Once they begin their pretty swirling, then we'll take some pics.

I had a digitata frag that superglued onto an overflow. It encrusted out 6" plus, but eventually just fell off, under it's own weight I guess.

Yup, I use a combo of epoxy and super glue. If the cap is big (like the orange one was), I make an epoxy "shelf" that I attach to a reef disk. I glue the frag to the "shelf", and glue the reef disk to the tank. The super glue gel works great.

We have an orange, a Solomon purple, a Leng Sy and an Idaho grape. Still have to glue the Leng Sy and still trying to decide if they will all stay where they are now.

Didn't fall off just died off. Strange indeed. I had a rough full moon cycle last month.
