MRC Calcium Reactors???

Anyone had experiences with My Reef Creations?

We have a space issue under our 92 corner but want to get a reator down there... MRC has a HOT reactor that would probally work. I would most likely end up with two of the 4.5 inch reactors for a combined 8-10 lbs of media.

Would this work well enough for a 92 with lots of sps? Are we looking at a ton of upkeep for such a small setup?

Also, if its a dual chamber is there a need to dose with kalk to maintain ph levels?

Thanks,
Jason and Laura

You should call and talk to Andy (I think) he can probably come up with something for you. From what I hear he is more than willing to work with a customer...

I have been running an MRC CR1 for 1.5yrs and it keeps up no problem on my heavy SPS stocked 75g. I dont feel you would need a dual chanber reactor. I still run a kalk reactor too though just to prevent PH swings at night.
The only problem I had with my reactor was overtightening the thumbs screws which cracked the bottom flange. But remarkably it does not leak. IIRC the newer designs have a quick dissconnect of sorts now.

My personal experience with dual chamber (from MRC) is I still need to dose kalk for the pH swing especially in a sps dominated reef tank. If I don't my swing goes from 7.8-8.2 which isn't terrible, but I'm trying to maintain as much stability as possible. This is in my 225 gallon tank.

i think that is a requirement for all reactors because of the PH drop. I run a procal and have to do the same.

Andy makes nice stuff. a good buy.

Andy sent me a new one in about a week. But during that week without a reactor, i had to test my Alk and Cal twice a day and everytime its a different reading. I found it dropped very quickly from the morning to night. I had to dose 20ml of each component of bionic in the morning and nite. I also dripped Kalk but all it did was raised my PH.
I just got my new one last friday its now running. It's great to have a calc reactor. But i do have to drip kalk at night to keep the PH in check.

Took weeks for mine to be delivered, fit and finish was not as good as I would expect for the price, and the regulator is useless.

With that said, the reactor actually works not that there is much to them. They either hold water or they don't. Mine holds water. :) The regulator on the other hand is what you should be asking around about. If you can't get a steady bubble count over a long period of time, no reactor will work for you.
