My Nuvo Micro build...

The River Reef

Non-member
So I recently decided to re-enter the hobby and finally stay focused on my Seahorse tank build. This is the setup I entered the hobby for and have waited after my initial research on the difficulty keeping horses.
Well, after a few setups and a few years of research, I can say I am confident I will be able to keep a healthy pair of Seahorses :D
I knew right away I wanted an AIO system. I liked my Nanocube I owned previously and with my past history (leaking setup in rental = upset landlord) it was vital to minimize leaking potential.

I found a great deal on a Nuvo Micro 30 gallon AIO tank and stand and grabbed it last weekend off our for-sale forum. Got the tank setup, added water, live sand and a pound of live rock rubble from lfs. On my way now...

I plan to get Tonga branch style rock to allow several holding places for the horses. Not sure exactly what other inhabitants I will be keeping but starting to narrow down the choices. I will post that list soon for feedback.

The back has several chambers built into the tank, here is good image:

For equipment I plan to have a skimmer (maybe Aqua C Remora style - had good previous experience) in one chamber with the intake. The stock filter system in the other side with intake.

The little chambers that act as bubble catchers in between the return and intakes will house the heater and any sensors, etc.

The return has these side chamber under the intakes that seem like waisted spce; I was hoping I could turn these into mini refugiums - one side has stick on refugium light and macro, the other is filled with rubble. Hey it might be a cool pod hangout?

I would like to get a RKL and definitely need a good trusted ATO (suggestions?) The ATO I see as my main leak potential but this tank would need to be topped off every 3 days or so, PITA.

For lights I am looking at LED and possibly the stock light this tank gets sold with: http://www.innovative-marine.com/skkye-light/tablet-30w.html
If not I have built 2 lights with stuff from RapidLED and will do that again on this setup.

Lastly, the only real custom thing I want to build is a raised box style cover over the back section that possibly contains the light as well. So it covers and reduces the equipment noise in the rear chambers and looks like modern light holder that was built into the tank (more to come on this)

I am going to be taking this build VERY slow and expect it will be almost 3 months before I buy seahorse. Stay tuned and can't say how glad I am to br back at it :eagerness:
