my xenia stopped growing... Looking for help.

I used to have a large colony of xenia... Some mushrooms began invading their space and over time took over the area... The xenia just began getting smaller and smaller up to the point where they're now just little stumps... I removed all the mushrooms from the tank since this all started when the shrooms took over the area.

Now the xenia still don't seem to grow at all, they're micro size little stumps and I can't figure out what the issue is... I placed them all higher up in the tank and still nothing....

I have other corals in the tank that are doing great but these xenia still don't seem to grow.. any ideas?

How long ago did you remove the mushrooms? Sometimes even little bits left behind can upset the Xenia. Probably the ONLY neighbors that Xenia doesn't like having. Also, give em medium flow and medium light. I'd wait it out. They should bounce back if your water is stable and nothing else is going on with the chemistry. Good luck.

I had that happen to me once when I started dosing CA and ALK. I guess they're very sensitive to water parameter change. But after awhile they came back.

My xenia grows happy with mushrooms touching it, hows your alkalinity?

Everything is on par... I have a frog spawn, hammer, GSP, various zoos, and they're all fine, only thing that doesn't grow well is the xenia... It's been two days since I removed the shrooms...

Two days? Just sit tight, the xenia will rebound... (I am going to place a tank of it outdoors this summer with a powerhead, I am curious how it will do in "local" temperatures..... :)

I should only be so lucky that my xenia stops growing :D

Funny you say that Andy. Xenia never did that great for me. It lasts a little while and then melts away never to return.

And I happen to like Xenia.

I had a similar experience to pvh, a couple of weeks after I started dosing kalk some of my xenia kind of got "shocked", stopped pulsing, just looked kind of sickly for about before recovering. My xenia is a bit tempermental but always comes back.

well fellas. there is an interestinf fact. xenia in the wild go thru mass die offs of the entire colony, no one really knows why, so this may be one reason why at home they do also.however the mushrooms obviously stung the xenia to death. i have seen xenia come back from just a tiny little scrape on a rock. you should note, pulsing xenia love lots of free iodine and iodide. you may wanna try a potassium iodide supplement if your not doing frequent water changes. i cant keep my xenia under control please buy some from me i have tons of it.

what are you looking to get for a small frag? My xenia is starting to look like leather at this point, although all my parameters seem perfect... they may just be too damaged to bounce back... not sure... let me know, i'll keep you guys updated nonetheless.

ya know, i could just give you a stalk of the rapidly growing colony i took from you when we re-scaped your tank...

You coming to rileys today?

Depending where you live I am more than happy to cut some from my tank and give it to you.

that would be awesome, what type do you have??

Also not to jump the gun, but the xenia look amazing this morning with the lights in the tank still off they're pulsing and extended... could be the first stage to a bounce back...

Moderators note.

Please do not turn threads in the Advanced Reefkeeping forum into sales of corals. If you want to sell/buy/trade corals, do so in the marketplace forums please.
