Calling all Farmers!
Jon Swanson here from the E.O. Smith High School Coral Propagation Project in Storrs CT. I am in charge of the New England Frag Farmer’s Market and am looking for BRS members who are practicing aquaculture in any form and would be interested in selling off some of their crop at the FFM this year. The 2015 FFM will be on Saturday March 7th from 11am till 5pm.
The FFM started 8 years ago with the idea of creating a venue for small scale coral farmers to have an opportunity to sell their homegrown coral frags in a show setting, without the show investment of money or time. My thinking was always that if I gave people an opportunity to sustain their systems financially at home, they would be more likely to spend time on aquaculture, which I believe has to be the long term future of our hobby.
Since then, the event has grown every year with over 800 people coming to the 2014 FFM to shop. With such big crowds, I have attracted the attention of some of the bigger names in the “coral business” but in an attempt to keep the event true to its original purpose, I am sending this out as an all call to anyone in the BRS area, and beyond, who is interested in selling at the FFM.
The buy in for the day, is a donation to the school’s project, which goes to fund materials for the students at the school to work with the systems we house. For that you get space, electricity, and water if you need/want it. The spaces to sell are limited (everybody that sets up comes back to sell the following year) and will reserved based on a first come first served basis. It is a super low stress environment that works great for the smaller hobbyist to be able to set-up, just for one day and make a few $ to support their hobby.
