New to Hoby and BRS

12gal~peanut

Non-member
Hi all … I am new to BRS and thought I would post a hello/introduction. I am new to the hobby – just got a 12 gallon nano a few months ago. The cycle is finally done and I am ready to add some friends to my tank. This weekend I am hoping to get my first couple of fish – a yellow clown goby and a purple fire fish. I’ll post some pictures once my clean up crew has gotten rid of more of the algae from the cycle. :.

Welcome :D....which firefish are you going to get? I love my purple firefish:).

i am going to go with a purple fire fish. Any suggestions on what else I can add to my tank? It is only twelve gallons so I was thinking that three small fish should be OK. I know I want the clown goby and the fire fish, but I am not sure what to pick for the third fish. Any suggestions would be great. I want to make sure everyone gets along and that I do not overload my tank.

to the hobby! I am pretty new here myself; but, have found most people to be very helpful and full of great advice. Best of luck with your tank! (I think the goby and firefish are awesome choices to start with . . .) :)

Welcome! How about a pistol shrimp and watchman goby?

two votes for the watchman goby and pistol shrimp - i guess that wins ;)

I might be slightly delayed in getting my fish - the fans on my JBJ Nano Cube are not working and I am not sure if that will affect my tank temperature. My tank spiked to 84 a few days ago - it was a hot day, but the tank was in an air-conditioned room with the room temp set to 70. To keep my clean up crew from suffering the temp spikes I have been keeping the hood open during the day when the light cycle is running.

Does anyone else have a JBJ Nano Cube? Any suggestions on how to keep the environment stable?

You will need to get those fans working now that the warmer weather is here. Try taking the hood apart to access the fans and check for a loose connection. If that doesn't work out then you might need to install some new fans.

Welcome aboard.

:w

Welcome to the BRS. Great ideas for first fish. I like the purple firefish myself. :)

As for keeping the temp down, I agree with Cheetos that the fans have to be fixed. You may also reduce the light cycle a little, which can heat up the water, too.

Welcome to the forums! :) just letting you know if you do decide on the purple fire fish and you are running a nano cube you might want to put some sort of netting over the back chambers because Fire fish are known to jump.
Good luck!

Welcome aboard! there are a few threads out there on the forums about people that have had various issues with JBJ's. you might want to check those or keep them in mind for future reference just in case! I would always vote for a clown as a third fish for you. A nice small true perc is a great addition to any reef and hardy too! Keep close tabs on that water quality in a nano, they can be tough to keep stable sometimes! Best of luck and welcome once again!

Welcome! I think clownfish are most interesting in pairs. It is a lot of fun to watch them interact.
