Noisy overflow...some input appreciated..am I just not getting it?

I have my 90gal. up stairs and my sump 10 feet below in the basement. Can't seem to get rid
of the constant "dripping" noice heard upstairs. seems the noise might be a combination of the water going over the single overflow built-in box and also the actual water traveling from the overflow through the forst 12" of tubing.

I'm using flex tubing instead of rigid PVC. Sump hasthe max. water it can handle. I tied "sound proofing" by wrapping some foam around tubing. Ant ideas. This cannot possible be a big deal relative to everything that can happen in this hobby.

Thanks,

Do a search on reverse durso. Quieted mine down immensely

Does it have a vent on top and If it does, is it big enough

Could you snap us a pic so we can see what you have for an overflow?

If you have the means to have 2 pipes flowing into the sump and one for a return for 3 total I'd research the Herbie drain. Basically you have 2 overflow pipes going into the sump. The main one you but a ball valve on it so you can fine tune it so it's a perfect syphon so it's beyond silent. The second one you just put a little higher than the main one and it's an emergency overflow in case something gets stuck in the one with the valve... Quietest overflow I've ever had :D

2nd what Dave said above about the Herbie. I run the Herbie over flow now, and it is dead quiet. The only thing is I would use a gate valve instead of a ball valve, it makes it so much easier to fine tune the drain. I ran a ball valve and the adjustments were not as precise so you will need to keep adjusting it, but once dialed in on the gate valve I have not had to touch it since. I only had 2 holes in my tank. One was a 3/4" and the other is a 1". I used the 3/4" as the main drain and the 1" as the emergency. I did this because if for some reason my main drain was to clog the emergency would be able to handle all the flow where if it was reversed it might not and I did not want to chance it. For my return I just went over the back with it.
