Odd fish to have...

yes, it does seem like a waste of money...

Susi?

I like the flashlight fish. I wonder if you could attach a darkened aquarium to your main aquarium with a large diameter PVC pipe, so the flashlight fish could come out at "night" into your main aquarium.

Also, remember that these online vendors supply fish for a variety of purposes (aquariums, research, etc) in addition to home aquaria, so some selections may seem odd to us.

What would make it go back thru the pipe?
or go either way?

I don't know anything about them, but I'm going to guess they're deepwater fish and wouldn't like the bright light.

flashlight fish are very neat indeed. The Waikiki aquarium as a few in a very dimly lit tank. They would not fair well under normal MH or even high end PC bulbs. They are reef safe though. If you have many overhangs and such on your tank they would fair well (many many overhangs/shadows)

the pinecone/pineapple fish (used interchangeably i believe) are actually very very interesting fish. Im getting one in, in a few days from australia so we will see how much i like it then. lol

The Pinecones at Neaq, have been kept with Nautilus in the past...and that tank was next to the flashlight fish tank in the darkened room at the end of the tropical gallery...first floor...not sure if they are still there....

...the pinecones have a patch under their eye that harbors bacteria that produce light as a waste byproduct...just like the Flashlights do...

...both need very low light levels...and too much light can often kill their lights...

Altantis in long island has a large amount of them in thier reef tank under ALOT of MH.
it's amazing to see it when the lights go out. the key is giving them places to hide durring the day.
