Anyone have any input?

I don't want the overdriven ice cap type set up, just a good old T5 HO retro.

Does anyone have exp with more than one brand of retro kit? (sunlight, geisman, hellolights generic, other...). I know they are all simillar, but we all also know the details count ;)

Any input appreciated.

From what I've researched, they are all pretty much the same. I am partial to the HelloLights retro-kit because I like the German 2-piece waterproof endcaps as opposed to the 3-piece IceCap waterproof endcaps where you have to twist/turn to seat the lamps. It looks like HelloLights use the same ballast as Sunlight retros.

I run the German 2-piece endcaps, reflectors that clip onto the bulb, and a Workhorse6 ballast.

The reefgeek retro with triad ballasts would be the best option IMO for normally driven T5

The Hagen glo retros seems slick.I don't have any experience with them but am thinking about using them myself.

I would go with the Triad/ATI reflectors from Reefgeek. You might have to email/call on the ATI reflectors but they can order them for you. Also proper cooling is the key to getting the most out of any t-5 setup.

My SLR Retro from reefgeek is insane. IIRC $300 for a 4 x 54w kit that included my choice of bulbs (ATI Blue + bulbs rock!!!) and I get really good PAR numbers and my SPS and clams are growing at a good rate... IIRC the SLR reflectors are Icecap and are/were some of the best around at the time.

Either way I'd go with a kit from reefgeek; they're customer service and products were top notch...

B has mentioned Reefgeek is probably sending some pretty cool lighting setups for their BRASS booth this October....when are you planning on getting them?

Thanks for all the input.

I don't want the VHO set up as I'm shooting for effiency over max output.
