output of skimmer

My skimmer (ETSS 600) is remotely set up in a cabinet next to my display. The height is about the same height as the display, and will be draining into the sump which is in the stand.

Can I get away with having the output submerged in the sump to cut down on noise? Since the skimmer is higher than the sump, I shouldn't have anything to worry about, right?

When I had an ETSS 1000 set up, I had the drain partially submerged with no problems. The skimmer was placed just above the water line. You should have alot more help from gravity with how high yours is going to be. Just make sure you set it up on a day you don't plan on going any where so you can monitor it. ;)

An oversized reverse duroso on the skimmer drain might be in order.

That would contain the noise and prevent any backpressure from the drain being submerged.

Good point. Didn't think about doing a reverse durso. Don't have enough pvc to make one, so I think I'll be making a trip to HD this afternoon! :)

L, When you drop the output of the skimmer into the water it will cut down on foam production. The lower you go the worst it will get.... I bought my etss 800 with custom high flow sump from etss at the same time...They have a water level marked on the side of the sump..Anytime it goes above that line the foam production in my skimmer lowers.....(which in turn makes the skimmer produce mud on the lower chamber....This mud causes it to go even lower..... End result....the skimmer is working on about 40% effeciency)
