Pale monti's, but acro's are fine

I have a few monti's that are pale and looking less than excellent. All my acro's however, look great. So do my LPS, shrooms, and everything else in my tank. It's just a couple of my monti's (my caps look good though).

Is there something that the monti's are more sensitive to than acro's? This has never happened to me.

All my params are in check

SG 1.024
temp 79.7
Alk 12
Calcium 420
Nitrate 0
Phosphates & Magnesium - haven't tested lately

I would get accurate numbers on Phosphate and Magnesium, It has been my experiance that Caps are very sensitive to alk swings and mine have always done better at an alk of 9-10dkh

This is the new tank, corerect? I've had montis get pale with lighting changes, whether it was from moving the coral to a different location, or changing bulb wattage.

that could be it Don. They are both fairly encrusted, so I don't know if I could get them off the rock to lower them.

Any suggestions?

A few of my monti's have been a bit pale lately as well, and I too have been a bit delinquent in Mg testing, I found it to be a bit low where as everything else is within reasonable levels...

Alk swing too quick.....(if it's encrusting montis & they like it around 9dkh) Low Mag or high organics if it's caps!! IME

HTH,

Thanks Brian. They're encrusting, my caps look fine. The alk didn't swing fast, but it is a tad on the high side if the encrusting like 9. I'll do a water change and slowly lower it.

NP, L, anytime....
Do it slow.....If you want to keep them!!! (over the course of at least a couple weeks) They get too stressed & they will bleach out if you do it quick!!!

BTW...I've never personally saw one beach & recover.. (for example body gets really light & polyps turn a light flourescent color)

Sorry if that is your issue.....Just figured I would let you know...

If it is the lighting change, mine always recovered after a few weeks without moving them. If you do suspect it is a lighting change, you could put eggcrate or screen over your tank for a couple of days. That might alleviate some of the shock.
