Please help me ID possible pest.

GinaD

Very Happy Red Sox Reefer
Are these the dreaded redbugs, or are they something else?
Sorry, they're so small and it's the best pic I could get because I had to enlarge the photo so much.

Looks like good ole flatworms to me.:o

Maybe your new fish will eat them !:D

Do you have any mushrooms?

Look closely at them.

I didn't know flatworms were red like that.

Hopefully these aren't the 'bad' flatworms, if they are!

Looks like common fw to me. Definately not red bugs. They'd be on your acros.;) Any plans on getting a mandarin or wrasse?

Well, not until now. I don't think I have a good enough supply of pods to support a mandarin yet.
As far as a wrasse goes, what kind will eat these?

Depending on how much you enlarged it, and if they are just on the SB, they "may" not be flatworms.

They could just be normal sand critters but I forget the name. Do some move real fast, or are they slow?

They move pretty quickly. They don't 'slide' or 'slither' like you would think a flatworm to move. Almost looks like you and I have the same thing.

I was going to say that they don't look like the right shape to be flatworms.

As for the mandarin.....my Target eats frozen mysis, but will not eat flatworms

doesn't look like the flatworms i had in my tank. I treated with flatworm exit that killed the huge population I had. to keep the spawn down after the initial kill I picked up a six-line for the tank. it's a 30 gallon and he has killed every fish I've put in the tank with him. MEAN little bastard. I keep threatening to get something meaner than him but he just keeps looking at me with that evil slanted eye of his

The picture looks like commomn red flatworms, Planaria. Exit will take care of it.

If FW Exit killed them, then they were Planaria flatworms. Exit is a pretty specific pestcide (with the exception of mini brittles-but it only seems to stun them).

I could be wrong, but I think what he said was that I have something 'other than' flatworms.

this is what my flatworms looked like, they have a definate head and tail section when they get larger.

IIRC, those are harmless clear flatworms, not the pain red planaria that takeover and cover everything. That is what Chris is talking about and they are tough to tell apart from a pic.

However, I still am not sure you have FW Gina. I could be wrong for sure. Did you check my link with the pics I had posted?

Can you get another pic?

If they move fast like pods, they shouldn't be FW.

Red Bugs are actually yellow and hang on smooth surfaced Acros.

More of a nuisance than a major threat if kept in check.

Flatworms can take almost any shape, I know, there are plenty in my nano :(

Here is a macro of one of the flatworms on my mushrooms.

Do yours look like this at all?
Note the small dot on it's evil lil body.
