Pre-Filter Box

Hey everyone

I'm about to put my 30 gal Cube together and I need to figure out the best way to setup my Remora HOB protein skimmer. I use to have it hooked up to a pump with no pre-filter box and I would always end up with snails getting sucked into the pump. So now I'm looking for advice or suggestions on a pre-filter box setup. I know Remora has a pre-filter box but not sure how well it works. I'm going to be using a Mag 3 with the skimmer.

The overflow box would help to get a better surface skim for the skimmer. You should be able to use plastic window screen, gutter guard, or some other material to keep snails out of the box.

They do make a box specifically for the mag 3. I haven't used one personally, but IMO it looks like a good design.

The AquaC skimmer box has a hole in the bottom & huge fingers. So not only does it not skim well from the top but it also sucks water from the middle of the tank.
Make shift surface skimmers are much better or a surface skimmers like a hagen surface skimmer not sure the hagen can handle the mag 3

Thanks guys. I was toying with making a center glass overflow box to house the pump and heater. I don't like the look of the Remora Box. Are there any problems with using glass to make an overflow box?

You could DIY something out of glass or acrylic.
