Prepping for tank transfer

Ok guys, I'm getting ready to setup my 40g breeder. Going to be transfering my 29g and some LR I have in a 15g(or so) hex tank into it. The hex tank has basically been a holding tank for the LR, and there is quite a bit of hair algae (pretty thick and tall at this point) and I want to get most of it off before putting it into the new tank. What would my best method be at this point?

Cut off what I can with some shears in the tank, and then remove the rock and scrub the crap out of it? Should I just scrub it in the tank (hex tank) to keep it in the water and preserve the life in/on it? Give it a good rinse in something in particular?

Any advice/suggestions would be great! Thanks everyone.

If you can hold off on the setup for a month or two, people on rc have had success cooking live rock battling hair algea. I can pm you the link if you would like or look up cooking live rock exact process on rc.

you cant get rid of a HA infestation by scrubing-atleast not long term, it comes back. the rock needs to be cooked. if it were me, id forego using tainted LR and order a box of marco rocks and cycle them. thats just me. why set yourself up for failure.
