pros&cons of sand sifting star?

I have a 45 gallon reef with a 1" mixed grain sand bed. I was thinking of adding a sand sifting star because the nasser snails just ant doing it. I have been told that the star will eat all the living things in the bed first,,but do i really care? the bed is not for filtration in my system,,is it?

it will starve in your tank...and it will wipe out the fauna in your tank that helps keep your chemistry, etc in balance. I'd buy more nassarius....
