i had a purple firefish and when i first put him in the tank he was hiding in back of the live rocks for 3-4 days. i thought he was going to die but one day he just ame out in the open out of no were. he is jsut adjusting to his new enviroment. just give him time. just when you least expect it he will come out in the open. just try not to put your hand in the tank while he is trying to acclimate that will stress him out more. and don't be worried if he doesn't eat for 3-4 days because mine didn't when i first added him to the tank

imo you can add another fish in a couple of weeks

Yea... they're pretty skiddish when anything changes in their environment. I chenged my bulbs to a different, brighter brand and he went into hiding for 3 days just over that. No one else in the tanks cared at all. Afterwars he was back to his normal self.

i wish he would come out, so i can feed him

Hang in there, like stated above they are very shy when ever something changes in there environment.

Great fish by the way, good choice.

its a beautiful fish :)

This is a very shy fish. Have had one sit in the rock work for a week then ate like a champ.. I have had 5 or so they hide a lot and love to jump when will i find one that does not jump.. i stopped trying....

good news all:

purple firefish cam out. not only he came out, but he also ate!

and if that didnt make me super happy, my shrimp also came out and ate! both are in the front of the didplay not hideing. i just hope they stay like this! :)

oh and watched a small blue leg hermit change shells.

what a great day in the 29 gallon biocube hqi :)

i think hes comfortable now :) he only hides when people in the room move quickly

im very happy:D

My PFF (his name is Bic) is one of my favorite fish. They are a bit 'tweaky' at first but do calm down and are such pretty fish. I've had mine for over 2yrs and he is one happy camper.

Firefish are semi-cave dwellers. They'll pick a "bolt hole" in your aquarium in case they get scared or stressed. So when you first get them, that's where they're most comfortable and over time they'll come out more. Mine comes out when the light turns on and goes into it's bolt hole when the lights go out.

EDIT: I love watching hermits change shells. One of my favorite things to watch. I also love watching snails move their mouths. I always say they "blount" because that looks like what they say while they do it. Lol. I also love when my shrimp climb on my hand. My clowns love to attack my rings too.
