QQ on mixing/making Calc and Mag

Can someone remind me on the ratios/ingredients for mixing and making my own Calc and Mag? I have a bag of driveway heat ready for the Calc but dont know what to buy for the Mag. Im using 1 Gallon containers.

Hmm. Never knew you could use calcium chloride to make calcium for a fish tank. We sell that Peladow stuff in the link at my work (I think only during the winter though). If I had known I would have picked some up!

Can someone refresh me on the Dowflake for aquarium use?
I think I remember something about it changing formula and no longer being safe for aquarium use.
Not sure if it was this or something else though.

There were concerns about it when the mfg process changed several yrs ago. IIRC it was that there was an elevated boron level in the new stuff. Whatever the case, after some time Randy came out and posted somewhere that the new stuff was probably fine to use as long as you have a half way regular water change routine to prevent it from building up to excessive levels.

Whatever the case dowflake is a lot less common these days for whatever reason so it may be hard to find anyway. Also IIRC people have used the pedalow without issue. If you need it now, the best bet is probably to order from bulk reef supply, or check e-bay.
