Quiet return pump

I am looking for the quietest pump I can find for about 400-500gph at 4 feet.
Needs to be SUPER quiet, not sort of quiet.
TIA

I have had good luck with the quiet one pumps, I think the 3000 is in your gph range at 4-5 feet of head. Are you planning to run in sump or external?

I would go with an Oceanrunner 2500. We have one in the Tech 45 and you can't hear this thing run. The Quiet One pumps are somewhat quiet but are finicky sometimes on restarts.

+1 on the OR pump....a sweet, quiet pump, and I am a PITA about noise.

i had the same experiences with the quiet one's

Thanks everyone. I'll check out the ocean runners.
How is the vibration from the ocean runners? This pump is going to be on a research tank where someone is recording mating sounds of fish so thats why it needs to be so quiet.
thanks again.

Ocean Runner are relative cheap, efficient, quiet, and reliable to run. Mine been running for 4 years until I switched to Eihem pump that came with the system.
But if I were to chose between Eihem and Ocean Runner pumps, I would chose Ocean runner. It's cheaper and comes with the suction feet. The Eihem piss the crap out of me the first few nights when it vibrate itself against the glass. A $4 suction feet fixed this problem.

If you sit the pump on a plastic bag of wet sand it will damp any vibration.

I have a quite one 5000 and it is much quieter than my old Mag 7 despite having almost twice the flow.

The quietest pump I have ever used was the velocity T2 pump, the trade off is it runs wicked hot.

and needs continual maintenence otherwise they lock up.

Tell me a little bit about your experience with Quite One pumps. I am slated to purchase a QO 300 for my system. What that bit about restarting?

Thnx in advance for your input and help.

not to hijack, but the reeflo tarpon I use as the main system return is quiet enough to be in my basement......and in terms of maintenance.....it has been up for 18 months straight without a cleaning. I have stopped it and taken a look at the impeller, etc, but no noticeable buildup......
