red bugs and low temps?

Has anyone had any experience with red bugs and low temps?
one of my heater blew out at some point and on Saturday afternoon I noticed my tank temp was at 68* ( the windows in the cellar were still open at that time) This was noticed basically because 2 of my tri colors were sliming. When I sucked the slime out I seen the red bugs on the slime, out of the 14 bugs that I sucked out of the slime only 1 was still moving, My temp made a slow drive to 78.4 by Monday afternoon. I have not really taken the time to search for bugs but am sure they are still around but wondering if anyone has done any experiments on the low temp and survival of the bugs? Possibly a way to keep them in check without adding chemicals to our tanks?
Before anyone asked, with the temp drop all is fine. The ONLY piece at this time that seems to have been effected was my purple pillow, I lost the whole colony to RTN Sunday night into Monday :( if anyone that I gave a piece to still has it please LMK when it grows out for you I would love to get a piece back. All other corals and inhabitants seem to be no worse from the experience.

dawn, i have a piece of the PP---its started to grow nicely, when it gets alittle bigger Ill snap a piece of that for you.

Dawn,

Did you happen to lose any caulerpa with the temp drop? A long while back, say 01-02 when the RB's 1st appeared on the scene, I had a temp spike. The temp spike led to a bunch of caulerpa to go sexual. This event led to a wipe-out of RBs in that system.

Hi HUn nice to see you still around ;)
sorry I have no caulerpa the only thing I have is cheato and in all honesty I couldnt even tell you if I still have any of that as I havent been down to my sump to look for it in over a week. ( I am sure my tangs are mad at me). I looked yesterday and could not find a single red bug but I am sure they are there. I am figuring they are hiding where ever it is that they hide and will be back in the open shortly. I am stillnot concerned either way as i know I dont have many just that I know they are int he system.

Steve
Thank you very much no rush at all. sometime in the future once yours is large and stable would be great.

k- i have a piece of that milli too for ya.

NICE!!!! I am loving Millis again now that I can once again keep them. Wish I knew what was preventing them from flourishing before

Do you think there is any chance the little buggers just got smothered in the slime?

I really have no clue. But I don't think so. I was just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this and fromt he responses I would say no. I may over the winter take one of the colonies out once I see some bugs on it and do a deliberate temp drop to see what happens.
