Red Bugs in signature?

Ray

frrrrunkis
I have noticed a few people are putting I have red bugs in their signatures, is this to be funny or are they just letting people know they have them if they trade/sell corals? Are people not even trying to get rid of them now a days?

I think there are a few people members who have treated multiple times over the course of years and weren't able to fully rid their system of them.

i just added it in my sig because i just found them in my tank, unfortunately. i just wanted to put it there as a warning or just to let people know. i will be treating ASAP and will remove it when im 100% sure i dont have them anymore.

It's just a notification I think.

Don't mean to open a can of worms, though I am sure I will - maybe it's just me, but isn't it kind of ...unethical... to trade/sell frags with people when you have a serious pest problem like redbugs or AEFW? Shouldn't the focus be on fixing the problem affecting the live critters in your tank than on making a few bucks from some frags?

Not to say that if you have been battling it for years and have ultimately resigned yourself to having them that it's a BAD thing to let everyone know...

There is nothing unethical about it if they state it, that's why it's going in the signature. As soon as it is made public it becomes the buyer's obligation to do as he/she wants with said frag.

some people dont care what corals have on em, besides everyone shoud be dipping EVERYTHING they get treating them as if they did have RB and FW and all the other nasties. i'm learning this the hard way.

I wasnt sure if people were throwing it out there like "I have them oh well" or what it was. I also agree everyone should be treating no matter who they get it from. nothing and I mean nothing goes in my tank without being treated.

Absolutely, it doesn't matter where it comes from or who you purchased from, everything you bring in should be treated as though it has the worst reef pest there is out there. I don't care if someone states that they have no pests, sometimes people don't know until later on that they have something. It is not a chance anyone should take, red bugs are mild compared to what you could get if you don't treat incoming corals.

IMO it is in their sig as a notice to others so personally I think it's admirable to state it for that purpose. :)

If someone wants a coral that bad they'll get it. I think it's unethical to not let someone know about known pests in a tank even though everybody should dip no matter where you get the piece...
