I know seasoned reefers are aware of Palytoxin Poisoning. This poisoning is no joke. Every reefer should be aware of this especially when doing a zoa’s or Palys tank as these corals contain polytoxin. Proper PPE such as safety, glasses gloves even as much as a KN95 mask should be utilized when handling these corals. Who has horror stories of palytoxin poisoning? If you had it do you still keep there corals? Below is a great write up on Palytoxin from MASNA. Take a minute to read this article to fully educate yourself on this.

A must read…..beauty can be dangerous and deadly!

As the name implies, Palythoa grandis (giant paly) are the culprits to look for, if you have paly resemble these, be very careful and potentially remove them from your tank. The removal is best to toss the rock these paly are on all together.
Here are some photos.

Photos are taken ftom the web and copyright belong to their creators, just a quick illustration of what these look like. They tend to be fleshy and large.

I think I may have had a mild case of it once after moving my tank. Spent the afternoon with my head over the tank which was heavy with palys. Next day felt like I had the flu with fever and chills.

Scrape with a razor blade then toss.
