Reeflo Orca Skimmer

Has anyone noticed the price's of the Reeflo Orc Skimmers are back up again? It looks like the new models are out and they want $1,300 for the base model (the old Orca 200).

As far as I can tell it's the same skimmer some of us here bought for $599 a year ago when they were clearing out the old inventories. Now, that's a purchase I have never regretted! Mine came with the Baldor Gold, 5 year, motor too.

Well, I still LOVE this skimmer and now I'm even happier I bought it for half price.

yeah, awesome skimmer... i hope they made some improvements other than the blue coloring to it though.. especially at that price point =).

I may be wrong, but I believe that the new ones are made by MRC, and the older ones made by another company (I might guess coralvue considering some similarities to other products of theirs). I'm guessing that they got cheap last yr because they were discontinuing the line and switching over to MRC.

All guesses, though I am pretty sure MRC is building them now.

The MRC built model uses a 10" "american" body. (the older orca 200 used a euro made body that is about 8").

You can still get the older orca 200 made by sequence at reefspecialty for $699

I don't see the taller extension cup anywhere either. It converted the 200 into the 250 I think. The better needle wheel was required though? I don't know which needle wheel came with mine, but the better wheel maybe produced more air to push the bubbles higher to accommodate the taller extension cup of the 250?

I wish I could get a deal on those two things! If you have seen them out there let me know.

I made one clone of oraca but with12x12x17 square body,all plumbing parts and acrylic cost me about $250,pump was about $300,total $550

The taller collection cup was only from reefspecialty.

Last I communicated with them, they didn't reccoemend the upgrade needlewheel on the 200 even with the extended cup. The upgrade needlewheel was only reccomended for the 250 with extended cup.

To begin with, the 250 has a larger body and reaction chamber than the 200, 8" vs 10" IIRC.
