replacement UV filter?

Hi all, anyone know where I can find a replacement UV filter?
On of my DE filters shattered

Side note how bad is it to keep running w/o a filter? It's enclosed so no UV is getting into the room but I'm a bit concerned about coral.

UV filter? What broke, the actual bulb, or the plastic casing the water flows through?

I think he means the uv for a de mh. Took me a sec I thought he meant uv sterilizer as well.

Please don not run the halide until you get the replacement.
The so-called UV filter is just a piece of tempered glass. You can cut one in any glass shop.

Correct sorry it was the tempered glass uv filter on my metal halides. I guess de metal halides are jacketed in Quartz not glass, and quartz doesn't block uv. Glass shop wanted $40 for a replacement, got a 500w floodlight with tempered glass panel almost exactly the same size and thickness for about 30 bucks. So far so good.

A number of years ago I broke the glass on my DE 150W Hamilton pendent it broke just like window glass obviously not tempered, I called Hamilton and they told me it was just plain old window glass. Does anyone know for sure if it should be tempered?

Good question, mine definitely broke like it was tempered and I *believe* tempered glass blocks more uv (something like equivalent to spf15 sunblock)
But I've only been to university of Google on this for the past week

It should be tempered, but non tempered one is OK too, tempered glass is stronger.
