Rose Bubble Tip Anemone Help!!

Hi everyone,

I have a 4-5 inch rose bubble tip that i recently got about 3 weeks. It is in my 29 with a 10 gallon sump. I also have a pair of maroons which is the reason i got the nem. When i placed it in the tank it attached right away and looked great. Then over the last week it has not been extending out all the way but a little. The female maroon tried to host it but since it has not been opening up the little maroon has been hosting it. He even takes the big pieces of flake food and feeds it to the nem. Do i need to feed it? If so what? Also any other suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
George

What kind of lighting do you have? One reason could be your lighting. Second it might need to be fed. You can do krill, or shrimp. Usually once hosted, the clowns will feed it. Flakes wont do. Clowns will appreciate the shrimps too.

IME they are simply finicky / moody. As long as the lighting is adequate it will likely settle in. What do you have for lighting?

As for feeding, I know that there is a lot of conflicting advice that circulates on the topic, but my $.02 / exp is that the best feeding method I've tried is to feed mysis shrimp to the tank, and then squirt some directly onto the tentacles with a turkey baster. They will take krill, sliversides, chunks of fresh shrimp, chunks of fresh fish, exct, but IME they also tend to partially digest then spit out all of those larger foods (which then rot and foul up the tank).

+1 on all what was said & when they poop out the rest don't be afraid as they open their oral disk & brown stuff comes out & floats away. Lots of 1st timers think their mens are dying, just the opposite.

As you asked if it needed to be fed, im curious as to if the source you got the bem from said anything about feeding it... imo, of course they need to be fed... a peice of krill, once a week, will go a long way in regards to its health...

I wouldn't feed it anything, the clown is doing that for you. they don't need to eat very large pieces of food to thrive, actually bigger pieces tend to cause stress to them.

I agree, except he is only feeding his clowns flake food. Feed your clown some shrimps and they will do the job for you.

I have a 150 watt metal halide 20K light and a ice cap moon light but i just got mysis shrimp that i feed the nem today and it looks a lot better but the fish seam to like the pellet food more than the shrimp lol
