Rose tip caught in vortech

nbpt27

Rich
My Rose tip got caught in my vortech 40 yesterday. I was able to get him out but not without tearing him a little. Right now it is attached to a rock kinda hiding and my clowns keep going back and forth between it and my green bubble tip. Should I just let him be or take him out?

I would Let him be, but keep an eye on him. If he is holding on, I think he will be fine.

Ok. I just got him from a friend of mine and it was gorgeous. I really hope he bounces back

BTAs are very hardy and can usually survive a trip into the power given the water condition is good. I would leave everything as is.
If the Vortech is a constant issue for the anemones, you can get a cover or make your own out of foam pad. This will reduce the pump flow of course but will protect your critter.

One other thing is that, if you don't have rocks touch the glass, it makes it harder for the anemone to walk onto the glass and into the pump. Non-sand dwelling anemones hate being on sand. If it's healthy and water condition is good, it shouldn't detach from the rock. It may walk around on the rocks but should not detach from it.

Well the light came on at around 2:30. Went down to check on it and he doesn't look as bad as I thought. My gold band maroon clown was in it. So I am guessing he will be fine. Fingers r crossed

Wanna post a pic but every time I try it says the file is to big

I always have a hard time with pictures. Use photobucket..I have directions saved in my pms, if you need them

Yup, BTAs are surprisingly hardy for anemones. People have been slicing them in half to force cloning for years. I never would have believed it until Anthony Calfo sliced one into pieces in front of us all at a meeting.

If you aren't able to figure out how to post a pic, email me a couple at; jimmyj7090@aol.com and I'll post them for you.

Here's that picture. I can't see the damage, but considering how it looks in general I think it has a very good chance of recovering.

Leave him, the same thing happened to me a year ago and mine looked a lot worse than yours. Mine had looked like it went through a meat grinder, it wasn't happy for a couple of weeks but it did make a full recovery.

Well it's just been over a week since he was caught up. He looks good but still hiding in the rock

Well its been a month and he was doing great til this morning. I woke up and last night he got caught in my Aquaclear 70. There were piece of him everywhere. The funny thing is that I have the filter cartridge on it with the filter inside. It sucks..In the market for a new one if someone has one.. Thanks Rich

Sorry to hear that i would suggest fixing those problems before getting another one tho. Just my 2 cents. Mine might be about to split....

Mp40 didn't do it in but the aqua clear did? Wow what's that thing use for a pump

Oh ya. Many little pieces all over the sand and little left in the powerhead

Think positive, you might see clones start popping up all over the place if some of the little chunks manage to survive.

unfortunately as you have learned anemones and power heads don't mix well.
