sand sifting sea star behavior

Last week I bought one of these guys and I have only seen it twice. How do I know if it's still alive? I don't want to go moving the LR or digging in the sand bed looking for it. The last couple of nights when the light go out, I'm at the tank with a pen light seaching for it with no luck. I would at least think that I would see a leg or the center of it in the sand bed but nothing, nada, zilch....

there nocturnal, mines out sometimes in the day but rarely. i wouldent poke just keep watch. best time to see em is in the morning.
