Sea World on the phone

My Scenario ... looking for a Mag7 pump, need it NOW ... was going to order one online for overnight shipping, but figured I'd check with my favorite local stores before ordering.

Unfortunately, my local favorites are closed (2 stores in proximity to Sea World, BTW) on Mondays.

Called Sea World ...

SW - Friendly girl, "Hello, Sea World Pet Center - how may I direct your call?"

ME - "I'm looking for a specific aquarium pump..."

SW - "Freshwater or saltwater?"

ME - "saltwater"

... friendly girl transfers call to unfriendly guy ...

SW, Unfriendly guy, "Yeah, Saltwater."

ME - "Hi, I'm looking for a certain type of pump and would like to know if you have it in stock right now".

... long silence ...

ME - "hello?"

SW, Unfriendly guy, "Yeah, I'm waiting..."

ME - "Ok, It's a Mag 7"

SW - "Yeah, we have those"

ME - "What's your price on that?"

SW - "I THINK it's 79.99"

ME - Annoyed... "You think? Do you THINK or do you KNOW?"

SW - "Yeah, it's 79.99"

ME - "Alright, Bye" ...

SW - hangs up.

Too bad the cranky saltwater guy couldn't be as nice as the girl who first answered the phone. However, that experience is on par with what I expect of Sea World. Visiting the store isn't much different.

If I could convince my favorite LFS to be open on Mondays, I'd never have a reason to spend another dollar with these miserable people.

As a follow-up to this phone call earlier ... I went down to the store and checked on a Mag 7 ... Sea World's price is $109, not $79!

I'm all done spending money there.

BTW, there are "help wanted" signs up at the store's entrance.

oh by the way i was the one who you were talking to, i told you over the phone that the price was 99.99 you asked me if i was sure, and i said yes i am sure. the actual price is 99.99 ,they were mispriced at 109.99 i fixed the price tags today. i told you they were 99.99. im sorry that you thought i was rude, but i do my best, as i get alllot of phone calls ,and trying to help customers on the floor at the same time.the actual price of the mag 7 is 99.99 i never told you they were 79.99 thanks for your input. we are always trying to improve on our customer service. Marc

It probably wasn't you that was there when I was. But this is one of the reasons I stopped going there. The people you get in SW...(IF SOMEONE ANSWERS) are very short, borderline rude. All I was calling for was to find out if you carried a certain skimmer, and a certain pump. I was basically told Im busy...come in to find out.

If this was a one time event, I can understand, but it was the 2nd time that I had that experience there. Again these were about 1 year ago.

Hope things have improved since.

Thats funny,I had a bad phone call with them also. I called and asked if they had any cheato. THe guy said in kinda a funny way " Ya kid we got whatever you need." I didn't think to question him., so I drove there ( mind you I live in Gloucester, MA like an hour and a half away) and I get there and the guy acted like pissed off that I even asked him if they had any. " DO YOU see any?" he snapped back at me. Still good guys if you go there at the right time. Still all that driving and no cheato....... lame!

I just came from there and Chris is my go to guy, very nice person to deal with even now he was under the gun writing his inventory and customers walking in asking a lot of questions he made some time for them.

Please no back-and-forth about your experiences. Make your comments about the store, and please leave it at that. Thanks.

Seaworld

Also as a fellow employee of seaworld pet center, i would like to appologize to anyone who has been mistreated at my work. As always myself, marc, along with Chris try to strive to help customers to our full potential along with having the responsiblities of caring for many animals. At times the store can be busy and get hectic from customers and phone calls, so myself and my other saltwater staff members cannot always put in the amount of effort we would like to put in with every customer. My personal goal is to make sure anyone who comes in with questions about the hobby or is confused about the equipment walks out with his/her problems clarified. I myself am not saying i know everything nor is my fellow employees, but we will try to solve your problems to the best of our ability. As always our goal is to educate people and try to get newcomers into this awesome hobby.

thanks - Billy

i would have to agree as a fellow sea world employee thats our mission statement
