seahorse tank temperature

i know there is a couple of people here on boston reefers who keep seahorses. what tank temperature do you keep them in? i keep hearing they need to be in cold water 68-70. which i have no problem keeping the tank temperature that cold for them. but i would like to keep gorgonians and sponges with them and i know they like warm water 78 degrees. but i seen a lot of videos that keep seahorses and gorgonians and sponges together. but i don't understand how they accomplish that if they like 2 different tank temperature. by the way i want to keep the yellow tank breed reidi seahorses

Different seahorses require different temps refer to the link below for more information.

ideally you want to keep the temp below 74 because certain bacteria infections that harm seahorses only grow above this temp. Saying that i keep my tank at 74-75. I would go lower but I am still against the idea of owning a chiller(probably going to just have to accept it come the summer again...although i did fine last summer so who knows)

the reidi are fine up to 78 but once again you run more risks when your run higher than 74. As for the gorgonians mine do fine at the current temp. The real problem with gorgs and sponges in a seahorse tank is flow since gorgonians generally need more flow than seahorses like. Having mixed areas in your tank of med and low flow will do better for the gorgs as well good for the seahorses as they can rest in the low flow areas but like to play in the higher flow.

Hope that helps some

thank you so much helped me out a alot. probably keep my tank at 74 degress too. i plan on having some areas low flow and some medium flow

I run my seahorse tanks between 74 and 78 depending on the season. The corals adjust and have no problem at these temperatures. I beleive that it is a misconception that seahorses need only low flow. They need high water oxygenation and flow is a good way to acheive it. Mine play in the currents. I use rock work - typically in a tall crescent wall to provide areas with high to low flow. The corals are placed accordingly and the horses have areas to hang out and look for pods.
