I'm setting up my plumbing for my tank how long should I wait for the PVC cement to cure when I apply it to the pipes?

What type of PVC Cement?
I know with the clear it's instant.........swab it, twist together a few times and done.

good or bad i dont wait very long

I do the same. Don't wait very long at all before adding water. I use the "all-purpose" clear pvc glue from HD. It is potable water safe so there isn't anything to worry about. Its good practice to run carbon on a newly plumbed tank anyways. Cuz who knows what has found its way into the system during the build right.

I will typically prime the socket, prime the male end, swab glue in the socket and put it down on my gluing towel socket side down if i can, then swab the male. Some pvc fittings will be slightly tapered on the inside of the socket and will essentially try and push the male end back out. So I will generally push the male end in with as much force as i can, using the floor sometimes, then give turn it about a half inch and push and hold it together for 10-15 seconds. I dont know if this all necessary but its what has worked for me.

btw i like the all purpose simply because its very unlikely that you will go through an entire bottle in one project, so if it will stay on your shelf it might as well be more versatile. The all purpose will bond sch40/80 pvc as well as cpvc and abs. So if you are gluing pipe to bulkheads, that's what you should be using.
