Trying to setup a new system but not sure if I should drill my tank or use my old CPR overflow. What do you guys think? I never drill a tank before so kinda worry. Also I don't know where to get that glass cover for the drilled holes.

Drilling is not difficult. Just take your time. There are videos on the Internet. If you are talking about bulkheads I think jay's sells them.

Drill it!

No question about it...always drill whenever possible. Glass-holes makes some good overflows but from my experience they're not completely silent.

great but not silent i agree. The guy will send you a product called "enkamat" that you can stuff in the overflow to silence it. It helps a lot! Ask him to send it out with your order.

If I drill. How deep I am suppose to go under the top surface line. Also how can I get the glass cover for that drilled hole. And how to silicon it? :)

Overflow has nothing to do with how quiet it is it is the plumbing you add to it. A stockman or durso MOD will reduce the noise as well as not putting too much flow through the overflow.

There are other MOD's you can do as well, so it might make sense to layout the new tank specs and what you are trying to accomplish. There are many ways to skin this cat but the least desirable is a HOB overflow.

Modification = MOD
Hang on Back = HOB

if you want a SILENT overflow, go with a BEAN animal overflow setup. It is QUIET. The fan on my light is louder. The fan on my wood stove is louder. my maxijet is louder. my mp40 is louder.

the point is, it is quiet.

oh, and as far as the topic question...drill baby drill.

What is bean overflow setup? Is there a guide for it?

The creator of the BEAN overflow has a very long thread on reef central. You'll need 3 holes and 3 drains. One is a full siphon, the second runs at a trickle, and the third is backup.

I use a Bean style overflow and it is silent. As Jay said my power heads make more noise.

I have seen his tank and if it didn't take up the whole room you wouldn't even know it was there, it's that quiet
