Sick Yellow Tang?

Our yellow tang won't eat, it's mouth is always open and it's gills seem to be moving really fast. We had our water tested at Skipton's, and they said everything was fine. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you feeding it nori? Is there another fish stressing it? Your description doesn't sound good for your tang. How long have you had it?

yellow tang

yep, we feed it nori. it hasn't eaten it lately, and won't eat any of the other food (mysis, flake, pellets, spirulina shrimp stuff). we've had the tang for 6 months. we recently added a yellow watchman goby and a tiger pistol shrimp, but the yt doesn't seem to be bothered by either...

yt

another thought... we turned off the lights for 2 days to get rid of hair algae and cyano bacteria and the tang been's acting funny since then. would the lack of light stress it out?

Lack of light shouldn't hurt a fish... it's not always sunny on the reef! Glad to hear everythings back to normal

tang still not quite right

ok so our yellow tang has red lines horizontally from its mouth back towards its gills, it's not eating and is breathing very fast. any ideas about what could be wrong?

thanks,

reba

That doesn't sound good. Odd that this is happening after having him for so long.

There's a fish disease forum on Reef Central. You can get good advise/research on ID'ing the problem and course of treatment with global exposure/input.

Do you have a QT? If so, I'd get it going if not all ready. I believe it will need to be removed and treated. Making sure you have the right diagnosis and medication is important.
