Silly coral, you're growing the wrong way.......

Is this normal?
My flow is moderate and alternating and lighting is 3-250w MH.
Only thing I can find is that some Red Plates grow down until they feel they have adequite support underneath.
Thoughts/opinions?

I've seen crazier things! Sometimes they like to fully encrust before growing vertically. Maybe it wanted to spread out a bit first. Looks like you still have great growth tho
