silly question - but I still don't know that much about clams

GinaD

Very Happy Red Sox Reefer
Can a large mushroom sting a clams' mantle if they're touching?

I doubt it. I have my clam mantle rub against GSP all the time. From what I understand GSP are more powerful stinger than mushroom.
How many clams you have now.

Just picked up my 3rd at Jays Aquatics.

Speaking of which - everybody needs to get their butts over there - his prices are incredible! (until he learns he's undercharging and ammends that... ) Shhhh!
I'll post a pic shortly. I also got some beautiful zoos from him that other places would probably charge double for.

OK - so back to my original point - I had to move the mushroom due to the new clam and it happens to be touching my clam #2. Clam #2 has been 'pumping' frequently since, so it's either being stung, or just irritated.

anyone else?

i normally wouldnt worry about it unless one looked bothered. so if the clam is acting irritated, then i would probably seperate the two.

that is a beautiful calm!

Gina, you have the clam flu...got to control yourself. Otherwise you will like me, I have 11 clams now and still want more, maxima that is.

That is a freaken beautiful one, the color is very unusual for a corcea.

Did I say that was a Crocea?? No, that's a Maxima about 4" under T5's. He's been happy until the mushroom...

that is a maxima? do you have another shot from another angle?

Gina, the clam will shift and maybe even jump if it is being stung or unhappy where it is. Leave it for now and let it settle in. JMO....I would prob put a shell or rock under it until it on the sand until it anchors itself...then you could move it anywhere you want

second that. A half clam shell will work great.

What?!

Gina - do you have any pics of the zoas you got at Jay's - I'd love to see them.

Thanks.

Gina, where is clam #3?

Here you go -

They're just starting to open up...$30 for RPE????

Gina, I'm pretty sure that is a crocea. Maximas mantles are shaped differently, and the shell would have much more defined scutes on it if it was a maxima. It is a beatiful clam no matter what it is though.

Darn! Why do you always force me to agree with you;)

If it is a Corcea, the color is very unusual. A great find!

By the way, the zoos are not RPE.
