You know all the ads online say their skimmer is the best, So I figured I needed a first hand experiance. What about the red sea berlin classic with rio 2500, My tank is a 75 gal fowlr but will get some corals down the line. What should a used one go for?

I had one on my 55g native tank for a bit... ignoring for a moment the whole "Rio nuked my tank" danger :D, I never got much performance from it (using a Mag 5 or Laguna 700gph pump ). I was going to pick up a needle-wheel pump from CRA and try it that way, but haven't needed the skimmer, and kinda forgot I still had it.

However - RIO pumps are infamous for nuking tanks, so I'd definately try swapping pumps.

I use to use one before going to precision marine bullet. It never performed well with the rio pump. It would either pull out no skimate or would skim overly wet and just pull out about 1 gallon of water per hour. These two extremes would be from day to day with no adjustment. I startyed using a mag9 and had decent results but no where close to what I get with the PM. I would think you could get one for $75 or so used.

I have one on my 90 with the rio 2500 and I am not to impressed with it. All though the performance is better since I added a heavy duty air pump to feed air into the venturi. I believe the venture is the issue with these skimmers. I may in the future pull out the venturi and change it to a new one of different style.

Do you believe them that it is the best skimmer? Anyway seeing as your in Newbedford I would just go to CRA and get one of there in house skimmers.

I'm leaning towards that way (CRA), Your the second person to tell me that Do you know what they go for? Don't know if I'm going to have a sump yet. I think I want to just need more info on how they work, Someone locally invited me to check out their system, I'll have to see after that.

I was "steered" into a red sea skimmer when I started. I run a mag 7 on it. It's
been 2 years now...works fine! Guess I've been lucky.
