skimmer

I'm in the process of working on building a skimmer. I was going to use 1 of my overflows to feed the skimmer, and have probably 2 pumps inside injecting air via venturi. In general I was thinking Counter-Current type design...water enters about 2/3 of the way up, exits at the bottom.

If you're going to use pumps to inject air wouldn't it just be easier to not tie it into the return line? I have had AC skimmers before and I have been able to tune them pretty well and just started using my first DC skimmer and it's even easier to adjust and I would think using return line would limit tunability and also run risk of putting too much flow through the skimmer...

How large is the skimmer? It is like over 15 years that I hear about building a skimmer instead of buying one.
Are you building a recirculating skimmer that fed by return flow then using two pumps to inject air?
