Small Sixline Wrasse - best type of food?

I recently (last night) added a small sixline wrasse to my tank, what is the best type of food to feed? I fed brine plus last night, and pellet tonight and really have not seen it eat yet. Maybe I should try flake?

Thanks, Ron

Thanks, maybe he/she just needs a little more time adjusting to the tank. I am just a little concerned because I got a 6line Sunday night, was fine on Monday, when I came home from work on Tuesday it was dead:( and stuck in one of the powerheads.

Thanks, Ron

I wonder if 6-lines like nori? We have a bunch of wrass and they all love it, I guess you could try that as well if you have it. Maybe mysis? All of our fish love mysis as well.

Thanks again Gina, I think im going to pick up some mysis after work tomorrow night and give that a shot.

i got a 6 line last night as well and mine is picking at the rocks eating pods so try that second they sell bottled pods at lfs

Well pods is the first thing they eat but after the that try brine shrimp, mysis, scallops, pellets, flakes, squid/octo, mussels, and really any meaty fair. It sometimes takes them awhile to start eating frozen but once they do they will eat almost anything. They also tend to like pellets more then flakes.

Mysis shrimp would be best imo. Brine shrimp doesn't have all that much nutritional value. It will be hunting pods all day no matter what you feed though. ;)

I have a pair and they eat mysis, fish goo, nori, flake and anything else I put in the tank for food...........give it time he will be eating like a pig soon!

yup my sixline wrasse loves mysis, gobbles it up. but Gina i have never seen it pick at a sheet of nori that i have put in for the tang and gobies.

i had problems with my six line eating intially as well, i mixed up some brine, mysis and spirulina and now he eats everything. I'd definitely try mixing it up give him options :).

You should try to make sure it's eating at the LFS before you pick one up. If it's not eating or not reacting to the food then don't purchase it. Also you should invest in a small 10 QT tank with a HOB filter and some PVC piping to help new fish adjust to the stress.

Right from the store my 6line ate everything.

That's interesting, we have never owned a 6 line so I have zero experience with them, but it occurred to me that they might like nori, as all of our wrasse just love the stuff, they can't get enough of it.:)

That's a really good point, Dave. We have always asked to see a fish eat before purchasing it, most places are happy to feed for you so you can see if the fish eats. If he doesn't eat, we don't buy it.....it could just be stress or maybe he had already eaten a lot, but we just don't take the chance.

+1 great practice IMO

The statement about brine shrimp and lack of nutrition interested me. Does this apply to the live ones as well?
We just introduced a long nose hawkfish that snaps up live brine shrimp but doesn’t touch the frozen meaty food that everyone else in the tank likes – he purposely avoids the meaty bits and seeks out the shrimps (which is fun to watch). I'm hoping to ween him off the live stuff due to easy of feeding - but if that's what he wants..
However, I don't want to be feeding something that's not good in the long run.

Thomb, you should be able to ween him off of the live stuff, try mixing some live brine with mysis shrimp and see if he slowly takes to the mysis.
