Sound Proofing Aquarium Cabinet?

I sometimes just use foam rubber that comes from packing materials. Not sure you want to spend a lot of money on this. you might end up having to replace when/it you get a lot of salt spray on it.

Thanks Greg thats a very good point...I wonder if there is any kind of thin insulation that has a smooth backing that can be wiped down. But then the smooth side wouldnt dampen sound is that correct?

For thin insulation you might want to look into something like Dynamat (/knock-off).
It's used to insulate trunks with subwoofers and will definitely prevent the walls of the stand from resonating.

I would start with that, and then add a sheet of generic egg crate foam to the wall behind the tank to diffuse reflected waves off of this surface.

Just did some preliminary reading on Dynamat...i really like this idea. Like a lot haha Bit pricey. It would be easy to clean. Id like to find out how its adhesive holds up with humidity.

I just use clear silicone in all the cracks, this helps also if there is a leak somewhere. I also use a rubber mat that you can buy by the foot to place under the sump and equipment.

Thanks smartfish. I have already caulked all of the inner seems and painted over them. I have 3/4" foam soundboard that ill be using under the sump/aquarium/rodi resevoirs. I think i may splurge and use 1" silicone hose for the return line. That with quiet equipment will hopefully suffice. Thanks again!
