there right under a 150mh(2x150mH) which is hanging about a foot over the tank(55 gallon). should it be lower?

That's more than enough light for zoos. I wouldn't worry about if they're healthy and doing well.

Sounds like theyre fine, 2x150's over a 55 is plenty. Theyre just stretching theyre necks a bit and getting ready to spread out.
