Still battling Dinos - 4 weeks

I have been battling dinos for 4 weeks now. I reduced the light cycle to 4 hours, and have been dripping Kalk. It started out looking like rusty sand then grew stringy things that started covering the corals. The stringy things went away very quickly and at first the sand turned back to white. Now the rusty look is coming back. Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong?

I have checked the PH randomly and it was always about 8.3 or slightly higher. Yesterday, after I read the post, it had dropped to below 8.2, maybe even 8.0. I'm tracking it more closely now. Maybe that was the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I got rid of dinos in my tank by keeping the pH around 8.4 24/7 and that got rid of them in 2-3 weeks. If you're having trouble keeping the pH high try upping the concentration of kalk slowly.

8.3 is high enough your case sounds worse than Daves. If it doesn't continue to beat them down you will probaly have to consider lights out for a fews days. We had that same issues. You also want to make sure you are feed just enough to sustain life in your tank and no water changes, carbon or GFO.
Keep your skimmer running at top performance and skiminig on the wet side.

Are you doing 4hrs with your main lights or just actinics?

What types of corals do you have? SPS? Softies? LPS? Lots of fish?
