Sump drain tubing instead of PVC?

I was planning on picking up some flex pvc (this seems like flex pvc question week) for a new sump. But, a friend had 24 feet of 1 1/4" "Sump Drainage" tubing from ACE hardware that he just gave to me. It's thin black flexible tubing that I was thinking I could use for the tubing from my overflow to my sump.

I haven't really seen anyone use this though. Is this a bad idea for any reason?

I have never used it, but if it's for sump drainage, you may want to find out if they put any chemicals or anything on the inside of that tubing. The stuff I bought for my drain and return line was for use with food-related things, so I deductively thought it wouldn't have anything toxic that could leach into my tank.

Does anyone have any experience with the black tubing?

That stuff should be fine if you can adapt it to fit on a bulkhead. The only drawback is that it's not durable, and the corrogations will decrease flow. As long as you oversize it though, I don't expect you'd have a problem.

Main thing will be getting it attached to a bulkhead.

Well, I've got a hang on overflow box. I can clamp this to the PVC coming out of the overflow. I'm hoping to get 700gph down this thing. The overflow is rated to 700gph. Think that'll be a problem using this hose? Aaaaah, I should just pick up flex PVC and be done with it. It's just that this was free.

1 1/4"? You could give it a try, I'd bet it's slower than a 1" spaflex though. Where are you? I've got some spaflex lying around that you could have. You'll only need a few feet.

Thanks. I'm right in methuen, actually (need to add that to my user info). But, I'm going to need probably 5-6 feet. I'm running down from a 30" tall tank and through a wall into a closet.

Well I've got about 30 feet still going down to the basement (used for a year before I broke down my tank) and a few more feet of new stuff lying around. Not sure if you want used stuff or not (I'd think it's good with a rinse). And I might even have 5 feet of the new stuff. I'd have to check.

Yeah - definitely. I'd really appreciate it. I would love to get this sump up and running and I'd rather not take the chance on this sump drain hose if I can get the real thing.

Let me know. Thanks.
