Tang tank size?

Hello, my name is Shaun and I have a 2+ yr old yellow tang in a tank that is 3 ft long. I have the right to remain silent, etc. My Legal representation can be reached at 508-273-2134.
The tang is the fattest fish in my tank. Second most healthy fish I have is a 3+ yr old Mandarin who East the same food.
I also have a 6 ft long tank... My 3ft long tank is 18 cubic ft while the 6 ft long is 6 cubic ft. If I apply the rule of large tanks, while it is longer, the 6 ft is dwarfed.
Its all relative. The rules often made on the internet are typically grounded in truth, but subject to interpretation. Some fish require more room, and it is common for and pet hobby to want to "do more with less" but I have seen plenty of unhappy fish in a 300g tank so the rules are not always hard and fast. Tang Police mean well, there will always be an angry mob with torches and pitch forks, but what each person does with the information when you separate the mob's emotion is up to you.

Ruge - agree with you to an extent. But for tangs, they like to zip around. if your 6 ft tank had only a small area of rocks and was 1 foot taller, it would likely make the tang happier than your 3 foot tank even with 6 cubic feet less of volume (assuming your tank is 72x12x12 based on your statement).
I understand how it makes some people cringe when they keep hearing others advocate over and over that tangs should only be kept in very large tanks.
On the other hand, it makes me cringe to see the inevitable responses to the effect of "BS I kept a tang in a 10 gallon for over 2 weeks and it's head didn't explode thereforer it was clearly fine. GO FOR IT and get a tang for your 20G."
Personally I try to offer fairly cautious advice about the care of livign things when someone asks, and I try to be polite about it. People will do what they want, but I hope that if they see the cautious advice over and over they will at least think twice before buying. Is that really so bad?

You are correct. My point was, not all tanks are equal. Stating a 75 as a minimum may mean nothing depending on the dimensions , internal load with rock etc.

I've got a yellow tank in my 60 gallon.he's small so it's ok for now.once he gets bigr I'll find him a new home and get a smaller one again.as long as there is some open water in the tank they will be fine.I would go putting a 4in or bigger tang in anything less than say a 75-90
