im eventually goin to set up my 72 gallon bow front.. i was looking at some MH light fixtures for it and just wondering how much wattage i would need to keep all ranges of coral i found one with 716w has 2 250w MH and 4 54W T5 or i can do 608w 2 250W MH And 2 54W T5?? thinking of goin with the 716w just getting another input on it..

thanks

the important part, if you want halides, is the halides themselves... imo, you definately want 250's... the t5 are jus for color supplementation... really no need for 4 t5s when you can jus use two... what it comes down to imo, is the quality of the fixture itself...

Hey I also have this question but I have a 30 gal long tank. What do ppl recommend for me. Sorry if you guys get sick of me just yell at me :) I am afraid I am asking to many stupid question.

never stupid questions.. what are u going to keep in the 30 gal and is it a 30" long tank or a 36" long

I just feel bad asking all the questions I do, just feel you guys must get sick of people jumpin in the hobby and not looking into it. It's a 30" I wanna keep coral with some fish mostly coral and anemones.

B4ney, personally, on a smaller tank like that, i think a 4 bulb 24" t5 fixture would do a great job... with a 24" fixture, you would probably wana hang it in some way if you could... not too many quality t5 fixture makers make 30" fixtures...

and dont feel bad whatsoever.. its why we are all here, to help each other, and for good discussion...

The 2x250 with 2x54 Is what I had on my 72, Works very well, Just watch temp... and be careful with essential elements or you will get Hair Algae...

thank you ill use that one then and save myself some $$$ .. that will go towards corals of course:D

if u want to pay a little more for a bulb & get the same light out of a 175 mogul u could plan on getting iwasaki "EYE" bulbs...15K super par rating (equal to a 250 watt mogul) the only problem...they cost close to 100 ea mail order...You'll save in energy usage & also a tad on the tank temp raising too!! check out them on sanjay's site about bulb par ratings...(I'm sure there is a link somewhere on the internet if u do a search...)
