Threaded Bulkheads

If you get threaded bulkheads, you will have to still put a small threaded piece of pipe between the bulkhead and the ball valve. The outside thread on the bulkhead is sized for the retaining nut, and not NPT thread.

You can't thread anything onto the outside of the bulkhead except for the bulkhead nut/washer, it's not a standard size as far as I know. Also I don't know of any unions or valves that have a male threaded end to thread into the inside of the bulkhead, which is a standard size. So I think the answer is no.

when I got the tank the previous owner had caps on the outside of the bulkheads because he didn't have the closed loop running and they seamed to hold fine. That is why I thought I could use a 1 1/4" threaded ball valve on the outside of the bulkhead. I actually saw a 1 1/4 threaded bv at home depot that I thought I might be able to use. I don't have much clearance so i was toying with that idea. If I glue pvc to a bulkhead how can I get that fitting out if I need to replace the bulkhead? standard slip fitting into BH with threaded end-coupling with threaded/slip-pvc-union/ballvalve... Does that make sense?

are the bulkheads threaded or slip on the inside?
they make pvc pieces that are just all thread essentially...pipe nipples I Think theyre called...you could use those

This is drilled through the back, yes? I'd go with Bulkhead->90 degree elbow pointed down->valve. If you attached the valve/union directly to the bulkhead it would take more room and you'd have to have the tank further away from the wall. I'd go with the threaded elbow where the threaded side screws into the bulkhead.
