Have appeared on some of my rock. The first two were cute, but now there are 10 or so. Is this good, bad, indifferent? Theyare about the same diameter as airline tubing, bigger than a pinhead, smaller than a pencil eraser. Sorry I dont have a digital camera, so no pics.

Those are good so far. They did not munch on corals and keep the tank clean.

Bring a few over to my place if you swing by :)

I think someone actually breed them and sell them. They will reproduce by their own and save your money on stocking cleanup crew.

Many of these little stars have been appearing in my tank...sometimes making it onto the glass for a few hours. Here's what I have found on the web:

Short note about it:

But I also came across this more disturbing thread implicating the critters in the destruction of a clam...

Of course, my identification may be completely wrong.

I have two kinds, one are mini brittle stars - these are good and look kinda like this.

The other kind I have I hate, they eat the sponges  off my rocks, I am sure they are doing it because I catch them on the sponge and the sponge underneath them is partialy dissolved when they leave. The ones I see always have shorter arms with longer arms and can have 5 to 7 arms. I am picking them out as I see them and tossing them . These are anywhere around the size you described. They are like these.

Edit:
Also the first photo in the first link by JavaJones is right on the money for my sponge eaters as well. I have been wondering where my sponges have been
dissapearing to.
