Tomini Tang Looking Pale

Any idea what would cause this? Wife just called and said he is looking pale and may be breathing a bit heavy. Only thing I did yesterday was remove a couple base ball sized rocks out of the tank. I also tore a tree coral from one of the rocks (similar to a kenya tree but its blue/green) Two clowns and scooter blenny all appear fine. Shrimp, snails and few hermits are all fine also. Any ideas?

Tomini has been in tank about a month. Was quarantined for a few weeks with TTM without issue or stress. Tank is stress free.

At a loss at the moment.

Yes. Got the pricier Rox carbon and GFO from BRS in a dual BRS reactor.

My wife gave him some of the red algae sheet he loves on a rock and he is devouring it. She said his color appears to be coming back. (see photo) I don't give it to him everyday because he grazes on everything all day, plus eats the mysis and brine I feed the others at night. Maybe I should leave him a bit of a sheet every morning.

I would just watch him for a while and if he is still pale then try taking the carbon out to see if that helps.

What are you feeding? And also more importantly are you supplementing with Nori a couple of times a week? I've found this to make a huge difference with Kole and Tomini tangs..its also often overlooked. (not saying you aren't, just asking).

My Kole Tang will sporadically appear very pale every once in a while for a short period of time. Just make sure you are feeding properly as noted, and otherwise keep an eye on it. I wouldn't worry too much though, as it is normal for Ctenochaetus tangs to change their colors I believe.

I have the dried sheets (algae, nori, seaweed, I have no idea the difference) in red and green. He wont touch the green but devours the red so I give him that. ive started leaving him a 2" square rubber banded to a rock in the morning and he is on it before my hand is out of the water.

I was not giving it to him everyday because like I said he grazes all day on rock and glass, plus he has some mysis and brine (occasionally pellets) that I feed the others almost nightly.

I would offer nori/algae at least every other day. I feed something different every night to my fish, between mysis, LRS Reef Frenzy, flake food, spirulina, and other herbivore/omnivore frozen foods. The more variety, the better IMO so that all of your fish get the nutrition they need.
